Educating for a Brighter Tomorrow in East London

In February, East London hosted ‘Educating for a Brighter Tomorrow’, FTCF’s first ever regional community fundraiser. Sponsored by two of East London’s leading fashion boutiques, Seasons and Gul’s Style, the evening kicked off with introductory remarks by TCF Trustee Imtiaz Dossa, and a screening of ‘Against the Tide’ – a documentary about the lives, hopes and aspirations of TCF’s students and their families. Guests were treated to a three-course meal and a fun-filled auction which featured Islamic calligraphy from Islamic Impressions, Ottoman replicas, and a sparring and training session at renowned boxer Amir Khan’s gym.

The guest speaker was Riffat Batool, deputy head teacher of Orchard Primary School, a primary school in South London. Riffat has an MBA in educational management, and is a strong female role model in her community. She spoke passionately about the importance of education for girls, and the role of women as leaders and pillars of society.

Generous guests also pledged to sponsor twenty students through their primary and secondary schooling – seeing them through from their first day at school at the age of four all the way till matriculation (GCSEs) ten years later. Guests were able to pledge a one-off donation of £867, or instalments by standing order of £18 a month over four years.

We hope that the success of this event has laid the foundations for a vibrant FTCF support network in the East London area and look forward to many future events and collaborations. We would also like to thank the ladies of Redbridge, South Woodford and Seven Kings for their tireless efforts in supporting this event and helping to raise the profile of FTCF in their communities.
